The Student’s Corner is a dedicated space in the gallery that showcases artwork from local high school students who are interested in pursuing a career in the arts.
Hailley Simpson: Merrimack Valley High School
My name is Hailley Simpson and I am currently a junior, soon to be senior, at Merrimack Valley High School. I have always loved my art classes, but it wasn’t until my sophomore year of high school that I realized what I was capable of. It was during my time in Art I that I discovered my love for drawing portraits of people. While art may not be the career I am pursuing, it will always be a valued hobby. I plan to major in Business Finance in college and the idea of minoring in art illustration has crossed my mind, but we will see when the time comes. I plan to use the creative mindset that I have developed through art in a profession that is not directly correlated to that subject.
I currently am Vice President of National Art Honor Society at MV and I received a Silver Key in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for a portrait I drew of my “Pa.” I plan to enter again in the next fiscal year and maybe even submit a whole portfolio as I will be taking AP Art next year. I have done commissions of 2 portraits thus far and I plan to continue making realistic portraits of people; who knows, maybe someday I will turn that into a business.
