A MIDSUMMER AFTERNOON: Music for the ears and poetry for the soul
Sunday, July 29th from 3-4:30

inFLUX

Join us for a lovely afternoon of music and poetry reading. inFLUX Flute and Harp will perform and Catherine O’Brian, former NH Arts Council educational co-ordinator, will read a curated selection of poetry from the upcoming exhibition inspired by NH Old Home Week, “Come Back, Come Back”.

Based in Houston, TX, inFLUX was founded by flutist Izumi Miyahara and harpist Emily Klein. The ensemble seeks to bring innovative and progressive concerts to the community and act as a catalyst for social change through music. They are attending an arts residency at the Avaloch Farm Music Institute in Boscawen and have graciously agreed to perform at Twiggs Gallery during their residency.

Avaloch Farm Music Institute provides a unique opportunity for chamber music and jazz ensembles at any stage of development, to have the time and space to work intensively on repertoire, prepare for recordings, concerts or competitions, work with composers on commissions, and forge or reconnect to a group musical identity.

Seating is limited so come a little early to reserve your seat and take some time to view the exhibition and browse the shop. Light refreshments will be served before and after the performance.

This year, the Boscawen Congregational Church and Twiggs Gallery have collaborated to create four community events that will take place during Boscawen’s Old Home Day Week.  Each will serve to help the Church’s ongoing fundraising activities for the painting and restoration of the exterior of the historical Boscawen Church. All events are free but we would love donations to help complete the Church’s project.

FINAL DAY!

ELEMENTS
Thru JULY 1, 2017

ELEMENTS references the four elements: Earth, Air, Fire and Water. These elements inspire us with their beauty, brutality, and changeability.  They sustain us throughout our lives and eventually dissolve us after death.

Four NH artists have chosen to honor these four elements as the ultimate catalysts for their creativity. Russet Jennings connects with the Earth via her garden drawings. Ann Saunderson honors Air and a friend’s spirit with her ink on yupo paintings. Melissa Hinebauch manifests Fire with her hot, brilliant paintings and Sheryl Kamman’s photography captures the grandeur of Water in nature.

The exhibit showcases the work of six New England artists; Shawna Gibbs, Renée Giffroy, Susan Lirakis, Maria Manolaros, Maxine McDonald, and Jean Stimmell.

2018 EXHIBITION OF ARTIST/WRITER TEAMS
DEADLINE: AUGUST 14, 2017

INFORMATION SESSION: SATURDAY, JULY 22 FROM 1-3 PM AT TWIGGS GALLERY

TWIGGS GALLERY in Boscawen is calling for writers/poets and artists with a deep connection to New Hampshire to join together. Select collaborative teams will be invited to submit an exhibition proposal for new work using New Hampshire Old Home Week as their point of inspiration.

2018 EXHIBITION DATES: JULY 21-SEPTEMBER 2, 2018

COME BACK, COME BACK: Artists and writers collaborate to honor New Hampshire Old Home Week

Old Home Week was created by New Hampshire Governor Frank West Rollins. In 1897, he wrote, “I wish that in the ear of every son and daughter of New Hampshire, in the summer days, might be heard whispered the persuasive words: Come back, come back. Do you not hear the call? What has become of the old home where you were born? Do you not remember it – the old farm back among the hills, with its rambling buildings, its well sweep casting its long shadows, the row of stiff poplar trees, the lilacs and the willows?”

Twiggs Gallery will celebrate NH Old Home Week 2018 with an exhibition of new work from writers and artists with deep connections to New Hampshire. Other events, programs, and activities will be happening throughout the exhibition. The gallery, on King Street in Boscawen, is a beautiful new space that features work by local and regional artists, as well as classrooms and a gift shop (twiggsgallery.wordpress.com).
