FINAL DAY!

ELEMENTS
Thru JULY 1, 2017

ELEMENTS references the four elements: Earth, Air, Fire and Water. These elements inspire us with their beauty, brutality, and changeability.  They sustain us throughout our lives and eventually dissolve us after death.

Four NH artists have chosen to honor these four elements as the ultimate catalysts for their creativity. Russet Jennings connects with the Earth via her garden drawings. Ann Saunderson honors Air and a friend’s spirit with her ink on yupo paintings. Melissa Hinebauch manifests Fire with her hot, brilliant paintings and Sheryl Kamman’s photography captures the grandeur of Water in nature.

The exhibit showcases the work of six New England artists; Shawna Gibbs, Renée Giffroy, Susan Lirakis, Maria Manolaros, Maxine McDonald, and Jean Stimmell.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS!
2018 EXHIBITION OF ARTIST/WRITER TEAMS
DEADLINE: AUGUST 14, 2017

INFORMATION SESSION: SATURDAY, JULY 22 FROM 1-3 PM AT TWIGGS GALLERY

TWIGGS GALLERY in Boscawen is calling for writers/poets and artists with a deep connection to New Hampshire to join together. Select collaborative teams will be invited to submit an exhibition proposal for new work using New Hampshire Old Home Week as their point of inspiration.

2018 EXHIBITION DATES: JULY 21-SEPTEMBER 2, 2018

COME BACK, COME BACK: Artists and writers collaborate to honor New Hampshire Old Home Week

Old Home Week was created by New Hampshire Governor Frank West Rollins. In 1897, he wrote, “I wish that in the ear of every son and daughter of New Hampshire, in the summer days, might be heard whispered the persuasive words: Come back, come back. Do you not hear the call? What has become of the old home where you were born? Do you not remember it – the old farm back among the hills, with its rambling buildings, its well sweep casting its long shadows, the row of stiff poplar trees, the lilacs and the willows?”

Twiggs Gallery will celebrate NH Old Home Week 2018 with an exhibition of new work from writers and artists with deep connections to New Hampshire. Other events, programs, and activities will be happening throughout the exhibition. The gallery, on King Street in Boscawen, is a beautiful new space that features work by local and regional artists, as well as classrooms and a gift shop (twiggsgallery.wordpress.com).

A LITTLE ABSTRACTED
April 1-May 13, 2017
Artist’s Reception: Thursday, April 6 from 5-7 pm

Abstracted card front horz rgb

The artists in A Little Abstracted approach abstract art in unique and deeply personal ways. The vibrant abstract paintings and mixed-media works created by New Hampshire artists Kate Higley, Ethel Hills, Lotus Lien and Marcia Santore, are united in their deep and abiding appreciation of color as an expressive, powerful, life-giving force. Together, their work is hot and wild, full of mystery and movement.

Kate Higley is inspired by nature—by the microscopic life that lies beneath the surface—as the basis of her deeply colorful exploration of organic shapes in her etchings and monotypes. Ethel Hill’s small mixed media paintings reflect her passion for color, her semi-abstract take on the world, and her use of landscape imagery. Lotus Lien explores the expression of joy and irreverence, through spontaneous and controlled layers of marks, lines and blocks of color to create a relevant response to current reality. Marcia Santore, is intrigued by the ability of pattern—rather than serving merely as a decorative, surface element of repeated shapes—to create shape, to convey movement, and to communicate emotion.

A Little Abstracted was conceived by guest curator Marcia Santore. Santore is a contemporary painter and holds a BFA in studio art with an emphasis in painting and drawing from the University of Texas at Austin. Today she lives in Plymouth, NH, and maintains a studio in nearby Ashland. Santore writes about art in New England for Artscope Magazine and other publications. She comments, “It has been a joy to consider the works of all these talented artists in the light of each other’s work, to find the points of similarity and the points of contrast, and bring them together in conversation with each other.”

Twiggs Gallery offers revolving exhibitions of local and regional art, art classes, unique gifts and Cornerstone Design’s calligraphy services. Twiggs Gallery, 254 King Street, Jct. Rte 3 & 4, Boscawen, NH. 603-975-0015. Hours: Thur-Sat 11-5, Sun 12-4 or by appointment. twiggsgallery.wordpress.com.
